Going

A major crux of my artist practice centers around my movement through open space in America. I am deeply inspired by open and remote places, and how we move through them. Of particular interest to me are our wild, natural spaces, and the network of extraction and transportation that overlay and interrupt these spaces.

The only way I can properly represent a place is to express how it makes me feel, and the truth that it impresses upon all my senses. There may be a beauty that staggers me, or the breathless grip of fear, or possibly both simultaneously-- but there is always a sense of awe and wonder, which may or may not bear resemblance to an objective, visual reality. What I feel, and the truth that I have learned from presence and exploration, is what I try to capture and communicate in my work. I expect that I will spent the rest of my life trying to capture that to my satisfaction.
